Hello everyone,

I urge you to read the ad carefully, look at the pictures carefully, and clarify everything beforehand, and only bid if you are truly interested. Thank you very much.

So, for sale is a beautiful, absolutely rare, and great-sounding antique 7/8-scale master guitar by

Juan Ponce

Valencia, Spain, circa 1910

• In very good condition for its age

• Delicately crafted and decorated classical master guitar made of solid wood

• With a fine, completely original spruce top (2-piece) and solid, rather narrow rosewood sides and arched rosewood back (2-piece), straight maple neck and ebony fingerboard, rosewood headstock

Juan Ponce was a respected master guitar maker of high-quality classical guitars in Valencia from the end of the 19th century until around 1920. Juan Ponce, Vicente Parres, and Salvador Sancho also jointly opened the Salvador Sancho C.A. Guitar factory in Valencia. This guitar is a true antique masterpiece. It is meticulously handcrafted and beautifully decorated. All materials are of the finest quality.

• The top is made of good solid spruce, the arched two-piece back and sides are made of beautifully grained East Indian rosewood.

• Ebony fingerboard with 18 frets, original frets are lightly worn and in good condition.

• Neck is not quite straight (maple)

• The nut width is approx. 44 mm.

• The scale length is approx. 628 mm. The side height is approx. 7.4 cm at the top to approx. 8 cm at the bottom.

• Total length approx. 94.5 cm.

• In unusually good used condition for an instrument well over 100 years old.

• Very playable, relatively loud sound.

• For its petite size, it has amazing volume, volume, sustain, and overtone-rich bass.

• The sound is in the style of a Torres guitar, absolutely outstanding. It has the classic sound of an old-time guitar:

Woody, dark, with a friendly vintage note. The guitar is powerful and responsive.

The sound can be described as mystical, with an almost magical appeal. The guitar fills the entire room and impresses with a breathtaking variety of tones. An absolutely exquisite concert-quality instrument, exquisitely crafted to meet the highest standards.

• Relatively lightweight thanks to the solid wood and slim design (only about 1 kg)

• Not warped, top, sides, and back completely free of cracks

• Comes with good Hannabach strings

• Ebony fingerboard, freshly oiled, ready to play

• Tuners and pegs made of solid brass with patina, smooth operation, keeps its tuning stable

• The nut is made of bone

• The tuning knobs are made of horn

• Very nice, quite slim neck, probably maple, with a good playability (string spacing at the 12th fret E string is approx. 4 mm, this can be adjusted if necessary)

• Tuners and pegs made of solid brass with patina, smooth operation, keeps its tuning stable

• The back, sides, and neck, including the pegbox, have been stripped, sanded, and re-polished with shellac

Defects:

• The guitar has been played, so the surface has some marks and one scratch here and there or other scratches (or a beautiful patina, depending on your perspective, absolutely perfect for an age of over 100 years!)

• Slight signs of wear and storage are present

• No holes or similar. The guitar has always been stored in a dry, smoke-free, and protected place, so it doesn't smell musty and survived two world wars and the Spanish Civil War unscathed ;-)
